Prying the box open or picking appears to be your best options, thanks for Pottery Barn non customer service problem, I will keep that in mind when I go Shopping..

go back to pottery barn and speak to a manager. if they cannot help you, climb up the ladder…..regional, district, etc. they should provide you with the best customer service…..just prove that you bought it with the actual receipt and the box….so that they dont use an alibi such as a security issue….

if all else fails, pick the lock or call a locksmith?

This is a ridicuolous situation, they could have offered a key
from just good business practise.

I can only think of one thing that comes to mind , that is like
when someone forgets their car keys and used to use a coat
hanger on the lock , and anyway i’m thinking if you can buy some
small thin wire and try and pick the lock, it may just open !
